crivelliДочитала случайно найденный на развале единственный и неудачный роман Cирила Коннолли (Cyril Connolly) "Rock-pool" и взялась перечитывать его же "The Unquiet Grave" by Palinurus. Интересно прослеживается магистральная линия его жизни, осознающей себя, как жизнь неудачника, добровольно заглядевшегося на Неудачу и тут же раскаявшегося в том. Он и в прототипе собственного alter ego, кормчем Энея Палинурусе, видит архетип всяческого стремления к провалу и неприятия успеха.
Я, возможно, ещё напишу что-нибудь о нём, но сегодня ограничусь цитатой. Не без зависти Палинурус-Конноли пишет: How privileged are Mahommedans! Small wonder there are more of them than of any other religion, and they are still making converts; for their creed is extroverted, - the more fanatical they become, the faster they relieve themselves by killing other people. They observe the dignified ritual, a congenial marriage code, and appear to be without the sense of guilt.
